HONDA CB TWISTER
Even in India, when Honda first entered the
market via their tie-up with the erstwhile Hero Motors to form Hero Honda,
their products gained immense popularity right from the CD 100 to the Karizma.
Ever since the partnership dissolved, both manufacturers have each gone their
own way and each has tried to make available stylish and fuel efficient
alternatives in the segment that got them where they are and which matters the
most- the 100-110 cc segment. Honda's stylish offering for this segment is the
110 cc Honda CB Twister.
The CB Twister by Honda gets propulsion via a
110 cc four stroke SOHC air cooled engine that churns out peak power of 9bhp@
8,000 rpm and peak torque of 8.97 NM@ 6,000 rpm. Conceived as a stylish and
moreyouth oriented offering compared to the Dream Neo and the Dream Yuga, the
bike is marginally more powerful as well while retaining the same bore X stroke
dimensions of 50 mm X 55.6 mm courtesy the new high-lift cam design. The engine
is mated to a four speed constant mesh gearbox featuring a one down- three up
pattern thus also differing it from its cousins the Neo and Yuga. The engine
and transmission have been fused and optimized so as to provide smooth and
linear power delivery right upto the deadline.
For a bike that takes its looks from the
CB1000R a good performance and handling package is also a must. The CB Twister
does not disappoint on this part either. The diamond type frame is designed to
aid with easy handling and keeping vibrations in check and incorporates the
engine as a stressed member. The front telescopic suspension and rear spring
loaded hydraulic suspension offer oodles of comfort and ensure that the bike
does not step out of line over bumps mid-corner.
Honda have been thoughtful enough to
provide the bike with tubeless tyres as standard and the 17 inch 70/100 front
and 80/100 rear tyres offer good levels of grip with the convenience that only
a tubeless tyre can. Honda also claims that their 'Mass Forward Proportion'
design philosophy helps with mass centralization for better stability and
agility.
There is no doubt about this though
since the bike handles very well on the roads. Another plus point is the
optional 240 mm front disc brake that is being offered. This in sync with the
rear 110 mm drum brakes definitely helps in reducing braking distances
comfortably. On the road the engine and gearbox perform beautifully with very
linear power delivery. Never once does the engine feel under powered or
stressed. It performs very smoothly taking the bike to triple digit speeds
quite easily. The optional self-starter also makes it easy for the rider to
operate the bike in start-stop city traffic conditions.
Mileage is of paramount importance in
this category and Honda are claiming a fuel economy figure of 70kmpl.While this
figure is not ARAI approved, Honda claims that this has been achieved on their
internal riding mode considering various simulated riding conditions. In real
world conditions though, expect a figure of 57-58kmpl in regular city riding
conditions and around 61kmpl on the highways.
The CB Twister is a stylish entry
level scooter and sports a stylish design which therefore catches the eye of
the youngsters. The Twister sees a sporty headlamp and a curvy fuel tank which
gives the machine its aggressive looks. The bike gets a 109cc air cooled single
cylinder engine that generates 9bhp and 8.97Nm of torque. The CB Twister comes
with a telescopic suspension in the front and spring loaded hydraulic shock
absorber at the rear which helps in giving it a comfortable ride. It comes with
various colour options like heavy grey metallic, electric yellow metallic,
sports red and black
Honda CB Twister was launched in 2010 keeping in
growing entry level motorcycle segment in mind. The segment at which the CB
Twister is placed in attracts the maximum number of sales and volumes. The
Japanese manufacturer wanted to give a stylish entry level scooter to this mass
market segment with the CB Twister. The motorcycle has a fresh and sporty
design which makes the motorcycle look young and stylish. The CB Twister gets
sporty headlamp, screen less front cowl and curvy fuel tank that help this
machine look aggressive.
The Honda CB Twister is powered by a 109cc air
cooled single cylinder engine that generates 9bhp at 8000rpm and 8.97Nm at
6000rpm. The engine is mated to a four speed gearbox with 1-down and 3-up as is
gear shift pattern. The CB Twister has 8 litres of fuel tank capacity and has a
kerb weight of 108kg. The CB Twister has telescopic suspension in the front and
spring loaded hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. It gets 17 inch allow
wheels and tubeless tyres at the front and the rear.
The CB Twister is sold in three variants in India,
drum brakes with kick start, drum brakes with electric start and front disc
brake with electric start. Four colour options are available for this
motorcycle – Heavy Grey Metallic, Electric Yellow Metallic, Sports Red and
Black.
